The Frederique Constant watch brand is one of the youngest watch manufacturers. It was founded less than 40 years ago, in 1988 as a family business where Aletta Bax and Peter C. Stas had invested their free time and passion in watch design.

The name "Frederique Constant" comes from their grandparents, Frederique Schreiner, 1881-1969, and Constant Stas, 1880-1967. The current CEO of Frederique Constant, Dr. Peter Constant Stas, is descended from the fourth generation of Constant Stas.

Since then, the current Swiss watch manufacturer Frederique Constant has worked with the aim of democratizing watchmaking, that is, watchmaking lovers could buy them at an exquisite quality price.

In 1992, and after hard work, they presented their first collection of Swiss watches made up of six models, manufactured by a Geneva watchmaker.

Just two years later, in 1994, they presented their first great success, the Heart Beat collection, where they opened the face of the watch so that you could see your heart, the steering wheel, I tend it to thousands of alternations.

Frederique Constant was the first brand, even ahead of Zenith with its Open series and others, to consistently offer a view of the watch movement from the dial.

But at that time the company could not register the patent due to its small size so other brands quickly copied this novelty although the credit for the original inspiration, along with the implementation, is nevertheless due to the Stas couple.

With the FC 910 Heart Beat caliber of its own production, from 2004, the brand positions itself as a manufacturer and manufacture, without losing its orientation towards affordable luxury where price and performance are essential.

The Frederique Constant watch brand since the brand was born a rapid rise, inspired by the freshness and innovation of its young owners. Thus, for the first 15 years the company grew 25-50% annually, and in a market so densely populated with a variety of vendors competing locally and globally like almost no other.

Aletta and Peter were in their 30s, newlyweds, and with virtually no assets. However, we were very interested in beautiful, high-quality Swiss watches. Therefore, we were our own target consumer.

It is important to know that Frédérique Constant is still the same concept and pursues the same position. We believe in the original concept and the business model.

PRESENTATION OF THE FIRST HEART BEAT DESIGN

1994

Frederique Constant presents the first Heart Beat watch, which features an opening in the dial at 12 o'clock to reveal the heart of its mechanical movement.

MOVING TO GENEVA

1997

Aletta and Peter Stas move to Carouge, in Geneva, Switzerland.

NEW HEADQUARTERS IN CHENE-BOURG

2000

Frederique Constant moves its offices from Carouge to a larger production site in Chêne-Bourg.

FIRST CALIBER MANUFACTURE

2004

Presentation of the brand's first Manufacture caliber, the FC-910, developed and assembled entirely in-house. To mark the occasion, this first Manufacture movement features the iconic Heart Beat aperture at 6 o'clock.

PRESENTATION OF THE VINTAGE RALLY COLLECTION

2007

 Beginning of the collaboration with the British car brand Austin-Healey and creation of the dedicated Vintage Rally collection.

INTRODUCING THE LIMITED EDITION TOURBILLON MANUFACTURE

2008

 Frederique Constant presents its Limited Edition Tourbillon Manufacture, equipped with the FC-980 Manufacture caliber with silicon escapement. Located at 6 o'clock, the Tourbillon is reminiscent of Frederique Constant's iconic Heart Beat aperture on the dial.

PRESENTATION OF THE RUNABOUT COLLECTION

2009

 Frederique Constant presents the Runabout collection, inspired by the eponymous ships of the Roaring Twenties. In 2013, Frederique Constant partners with the Riva Historical Society, which is dedicated to preserving these famous wooden ships.

PRESENTATION OF CLASSIC WORLDTIMER MANUFACTURE WATCHES

2012

 A future Frederique Constant bestseller is revealed. Displaying all 24 major city time zones, it's the perfect watch for businessmen on the go. All functions of the FC-718 Manufacture caliber can be adjusted via the crown alone.

PRESENTATION OF THE FIRST HOROLOGICAL SMARTWATCH

2015

 The first Swiss smartwatch with connected functions and an analog face. The watch features an electronic module mounted on a quartz caliber, which is linked to the Frederique Constant smartwatch app.

ACQUISITION OF FREDERIQUE CONSTANT GROUP BY CITIZEN WATCH CO. LIMITED

2016

Aletta and Peter Stas begin to think about the future of the Frederique Constant Group and decide to accept Citizen's takeover offer.

INTRODUCING THE FLYBACK CHRONOGRAPH MANUFACTURE

2017

The conventional flyback mechanism is based on a set of several column wheels that act as a coupling system. The FC-760 Manufacture caliber that powers the Flyback Chronograph Manufacture dispenses with this complexity, replacing the standard column wheel with a (proprietary) star-shaped wheel. The result is a finer movement with fewer parts and operations.

PRESENTATION OF THE CLASSIC HYBRID MANUFACTURE

2018

Presented at the exclusive Carpenter's Gallery, the Classic Hybrid Manufacture watch features connected functions and combines, for the first time in watchmaking history, a quartz caliber and a mechanical movement.

EXPANSION OF THE PLANT AND CREATION OF THE MANUFACTURE EXPERIENCE

 In order to increase the production capacity and meet the growing demand and expansion of the group, the plant was expanded, which now reaches a total of 6,200 m2. The Manufacture Experience was also created, a museum open to the public that recalls the history of the Frederique Constant Group.
