In the records of the Swiss watchmaking brand Certina, the year 1968 is one of those milestones: it was then that the DS-2 set new reference standards inresistance matter.Perfect corners and edgesWith the first DS-2 model from 1968, Certina opened a new chapter in the history of producing extremely reliable watches. Thus, the prosperous story that had begun nine years earlier with the DS-1 continued with coherence and sublime style. Now, as then, the DS-2 is notable for its barrel-shaped case, or, as it was described at the product launch in 1968, 'an ellipse flattened at both ends.' Smooth corners and edges are combined with a round dial and sapphire crystal. The new DS-2 is available in four models, with a matt black or satin-brushed silver, blue or black dial. The rectangular hands and indexes with Super-LumiNova® underline the vintage character of the watch. The stainless steel case, 40 mm wide and 38 mm long, is mounted on a Milanese bracelet or a NATO strap made of #tide ocean material®, a material made from plastics extracted from the sea.The power of modern mechanicsDespite the extreme similarity of the new DS-2 with its predecessor, it presents itself with a determined independence inside. In the new model beats an absolutely avant-garde automatic caliber with up to 80 hours of power reserve and an antimagnetic NivachronTM hairspring, visible through the sapphire caseback. This mechanism reliably drives the hour, minute and second hands, as well as the date at 3 o'clock. Thanks to the screw-down crown and the DS system, the watch is water-resistant to 20 bar (200 m).
