Certina brings the striking look of the sixties back to life with a modern automatic caliber with anti-magnetic NivachronTM hairspring.
History is dotted with names and dates that have marked its course. In the records of the Swiss watch brand Certina, the year 1968 is one of those milestones: it was then that the DS-2 set new reference standards in resistance matter.
Perfect corners and edges
With the first DS-2 model of 1968, Certina opened a new chapter in the history of the production of extremely reliable watches. Thus, it continued with coherence and sublime style the prosperous story that had begun nine years earlier with the DS-1.
Now, as then, the DS-2 stands out for its barrel-shaped case, or, as it was described at the product's presentation in 1968, an 'ellipse flattened at both ends.' Smooth corners and edges are combined with a round dial and sapphire crystal.
The rectangular hands and indexes with Super-LumiNova® underline the vintage character of the watch. The stainless steel case, 40 mm wide and 38 mm long, is mounted on a Milanese bracelet or a NATO strap made of #tide ocean material®, a material made from plastics extracted from the sea. Despite the extreme similarity of the new DS-2 with its predecessor, it presents itself with a decided independence inside.
Powering the new model is an absolutely cutting-edge automatic caliber with up to 80 hours of power reserve and an anti-magnetic NivachronTM hairspring, visible through the sapphire caseback. This mechanism reliably operates the hour, minute and second hands, as well as the date displayed at 3 o'clock. Thanks to the screw-down crown and the DS system, the watch is water-resistant up to 20 bar (200 m).
